The GE 35810 is my first radio that used AA batteries and used the CTCSS tones. I have had radios that had one of these features, but not both. The GE 35810 is not much in the looks category, but it is a good, solid FRS radio. This is a perfect radio for the FRS beginner. The GE 35810 has 14 channels and 38 sub codes or CTCSS tones. The tones are compatible with the standard 38 tones used on Motorola and Radio Shack FRS units. The usual display icons such as transmit indicator, battery level, volume, channel and sub code indicators are present. One feature not usually found on FRS units in this price range is a temperature display. It is selectable for Fahrenheit or Celsius. One feature that is missing is the scan feature. Come on FRS makers...Can't you understand that scan is a valuable feature to have. Heck, my cheap Ranger radios have the scan feature! The GE 35810 FRS radio is built like a tank. It will take a lot of abuse from accidental drops. In case something goes wrong, it comes with a one year warranty. If you need warranty service, send the radio with evidence of purchase date such as the bill of sale. Also print your name and address and a dexcription of the defect. Send via standard UPS or its equivalent to: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc. 11721 B Alameda Ave. Socorro, Texas 79927t The GE 35810 is a fantastic radio for those who want to keep to a small budget. The radio works great and has the necessary features for today's radio usage. Happy FRSing! GE 35810 Owner's Manual
